SDC1602B Configuration Tool

You can use this tool to help you configure your switch and jumper settings for the SDC1602B SCSI host bus adapter. To use this tool, you need to be using a JavaScript enabled browser, which probably means that you will need to use Netscape Navigator v2.0 or higher.

All options that are selected on the initial load are the default settings. You can change any setting you like. Once you are satisfied with the settings, click on the "Show Me Settings!" button and you will be shown the switch and jumper settings for your selected configuration.

Select a Host I/O port address:

If you are using an Ethernet card at host I/O port address 320h, you will not be able to use host I/O port address 330h-333h for the SDC1602B.
Select an interrupt:

If you are using NetWare, do not use interrupt 15. Interrupt 14 is typically used by an internal hard disk controller or built in SCSI adapter.
Select a DMA Channel:

Select a host SCSI address for the SDC1602B: (default is 7)

This option sets the SCSI ID of the SCSI Host bus adapter. It does refer to the SCSI ID any device attached to the SCSI adapter. In most cases, you will set the SCSI ID to 7. The only reason you would not set the SCSI ID to 7 is if you had two SCSI adapters attached to the same SCSI bus. You can have two SCSI adapters in the same computer with the same SCSI address.
Select a ROM BIOS address:

You only need the SCSI ROM BIOS enabled if you plan on booting DOS from a device attached to this card, if you want to be able to recognize a device attached to the card under DOS, for trouble shooting purposes, or if you want to access the BIOS utilities. Otherwise, it is usually best to leave the BIOS disabled.
Synchronous Negotiation:

1 GByte Translation:

The 1GByte translation, when enabled, allows you to use a SCSI device with a capacity greater than 1GByte. You can use a device that is less than 1GByte with the translation enabled, therefore, the really is no reason to have this option disabled other than to be able to use a device that was used previously with 1GByte translation disabled.
SCSI Parity:

With standard SCSI-1 devices, parity is disabled by default. Make sure that all the devices attached to the SCSI bus have the same parity setting.
Host Bus Transfer Rate:

For most computers, you will not be able to use anything other than 5.0MB/sec. You can try however, to change this setting to a higher setting for better performance. Some computer will not be able to function properly at the faster bus transfer rates. To test, just try the fastest setting and if the computer locks up on boot up or is not able to find the devices attached to the SCSI adapter, back off by one level and repeat if necessary till it works again.
Floppy Controller Address:

Floppy Disk Controller:

If you have a built in floppy disk controller, be sure to disable the floppy disk controller on the SDC1602B.
Host I/O Channel Ready:

You typically only need to disable this setting on older 80286 computers.
